Kitchen on Wheels, Natch!

imageOne of the top entrants in this year’s Electrolux design contest is the Kitchen Drawer. Designed for the internet generation - you know the type, always connected, always mobile, and most likely living in urban areas where space is a commodity.

There are four main parts to this product; a stainless plate for meal prep and warming, an electric stove for cooking, a dish drawer for storage, and a mini-fridge. If it looks like a filing cabinet, don’t hate - it’s supposed to slip under your desk. This is perfect for someone who eats at the desk, like I am doing now. Mmm. . . ramen.

Kitchens Go All Multi-Touchscreen

image

Wow there’s  a word we haven’t written here in awhile; multi-touch. Say it with me class. The Miele concept is the kitchen of the future, complete with, wait for it . . . a multi-touch surface. Get the latest recipes and nutritional information as well as instructions and tips on cooking. There’s a built-in scale and the cooktop interfaces with your bluetooth enabled phone to set up grocery lists.

OMG but that’s not all. There’s also an integrated blender and a steamer. HELLO. I need this NOW. Designers Fiona McAndrew and Conor Fallon are only one step away from fulfilling my kitchen fantasies. I just need a Rosie the Robot to do it all for me and my life will be complete.

Cooking with a Twist

image image

Here is a f un new way to cook that could either really annoy some chefs out there or really make many of us happy for the added built in convenience. The “Arcus” is a freestanding stove concept created in cooperation with Miele & CIE. AG. The interesting aspect of this stove is the built in ability to raise or lower the heat with a simple twist of the pot or pan you are cooking with. Need to lower the heat on your soup to a simmer? Simply twist the pot and the heat goes down. This is a great idea for those chefs that do not tend to handle the pots constantly during the cooking process. Another slightly more Zen feature is the built in waterfall framing the back of the stove. Before you laugh at that, know that this waterfall effect helps to reduce and draw away steam, reducing constant unwanted facials and fogged glasses.

Whirlpool shows green kitchen concept

imageWhirlpool has shown of its futuristic "green kitchen" concept in which 60% of the water and heat generated from appliances is "diverted" to fuel other appliances or functions in the eco-kitchen.
Through this integrated use of appliances, with the concept taking its model from the cycle of nature, it optimises the use of heat and water with processes that increase energy efficiency up to 70%.
For example, the kitchen allows you to use the heat produced by the fridge compressor, the only appliance to operate 24 hours a day, to produce hot water for the dishwasher.
Simple changes make a difference too - the refrigerator also uses a fridge "drawer", instead of the normal cabinet. This new design prevents the cold air from slipping out every time the door opens.
As well as being eco-friendly, the average savings that an owner could make from the kitchen eco-system created to adapt, reduce and recycle water, heat and energy are estimated at 24%.

Bosch SHE43M05UC Evolution 300 Series 24-in. Under Counter Dishwasher
imageQuiet. Efficient. Evolved.

Meet the SHE43MO5, a beautiful stainless steel dishwasher designed for your needs. It’s stealthy quiet, and here’s why. When in action, it’s the noise factor, or rather the lack of it, that’ll draw your attention. With a suspended two-pump motor system, vibrations and noise are drastically reduced. And with heavy-duty bitumen coated metal and cotton-fiber sheet insulation, the noise is basically buried. Bosch’s dishwashers are as discreet as they are powerful. Plus, the CHILDLOCK latch prevents children from disturbing the SHE43M05’s duties. But you can, if you want, via placed controls and status displays on the outside panel for instant access.

The Green Cleaning Machine

Hop on the green bandwagon with Bosch. The SHE43M05 features ECOSENSE™, an advanced sensor system that determines the soil level in the wash water and automatically deletes fresh water fills if they’re not needed, saving you time and money while cutting energy usage by 20%. In conventional dishwashers, water falls randomly onto an exposed heating element. And since not all the water touches the heating element, this results in slower and less energy-efficient heating. Bosch dishwashers, on the other hand, channel 100% of the water through tighter coils in a confined heating chamber, which heats the water quickly and efficiently up to 161 degrees Fahrenheit. Proving once again that Bosch is committed to efficiency, the SHE43MO5 is ENERGY STAR® qualified.

Gorenje Kitchen Is Perfect Match for iPhone Iron Chefs

image

This Gorenje kitchen by french designer Ora-Ïto is one of the five best domestic appliances in the 2008 Wallpaper Design awards. We absolutely dig it, not because it looks like the iPhone of kitchens, but because of its clean black glass and brushed aluminum surfaces combined with the last cookery tech. As Wallpaper puts it: "High technology and simple functionality, what the designer dubs simplexity." OK, so it’s because of the iPhone looks.
